When I was starting out, I would hide the fact that I lived in an Assisted Living community. I was only 23 and I was trying to be a professional in a town that was kind of a good old boys network.

In this episode we spoke with Kris Chana, CEO of the Chelsea Place. At the age of 23, Kris courageously opened a new Assisted Living community in a “good old boys network” part of town.

In eight years, he has grown his community to include a vibrant Day Care program and purpose-driven Home Care.

We spoke with Kris about what it was like to start an Assisted Living home, a marriage, and a business at a young age. And how he’s grown personally and professionally while providing some very forward-thinking programs and care.

“I’d start my day getting dressed in a suit and tie because I thought I had to prove something. Then I’d go down the hall and help our resident, Miss Sara, get up and ready for the day before I dashed out the door to start meetings and marketing the business.”

Watch or listen to:

  • Learn how his own caregiver burnout helped him create an amazing culture for his staff to flourish
  • Discover how the experiences of being the caregiver, owner, marketer, activities director all in one shaped Kris’s beliefs and continued drive to change senior care
  • Find out why colors and fun are soooooooo important to Kris and the culture he has created
  • Understand how his Day Care program has created an enormous community for his clients
  • See how Kris creates purpose-centered care in home care

P.S. What did Kris’s new bride ask for in order to move into an Assisted Living community for the first 3-1/2 years of their marriage? If you can answer that question, email us and we’ll send you a Mavericks coffee mug!
